In tune with nature – the Rachel Pohl signature series
In a world that often feels overwhelming, finding peace can feel like a lifeline. Nature has the power to heal, to calm our minds, and to remind us of the beauty in each moment. And then, there are dogs. Our loyal companions, who love us unconditionally and remind us we are never alone. The bond between nature, our dogs, and those small, joyful moments is truly profound. This bond, we wanted to celebrate it through a collection that embodies what it means to be in tune with nature.
After our last colorful collaboration with artist Rachel Pohl, it was clear that her vibrant art and deep-rooted vision of the natural world were a perfect match. This shared vision led to the Rachel Pohl signature series—a celebration of nature’s beauty and the joyful connection we share with our dogs. This unique collection features the Line harness 5.0 Rachel Pohl edition, the Trail quest collar Rachel Pohl edition, the Trail quest leash Rachel Pohl edition, and Trail quest fanny pack Rachel Pohl edition.
Together, these products create a kit that brings vibrant art into everyday adventures with your best friend.
For Rachel, art and the wild are one and the same, inseparable. Her vision for this collaboration was to capture the essence of the seasons, the thrill of exploration, and the vivid moments that make our lives shine a little brighter. Here, she shares her inspiration, in her own words.
What was your inspiration behind the pattern?
The mountains are inspired by Norway's Rondane National Park, but they also feel like my home mountain range back home in Montana, where I am from. The mountains have a universal mountain look, and my hope is they remind everyone of their favorite place in nature. The geometric pattern was inspired by traditional knit sweaters and has a ubiquitous feeling of not belonging to any specific tradition, but rather to many. I love how, on one side, the webbing is more organic and free-flowing, and on the other, it is geometric. Just as there are dualities in life, and in our dogs, there is a feeling of flow on one side and a feeling of structure on the other. The patches are paintings that capture the feeling of being in the mountains and spark a feeling of excitement about exploring more.
How did you decide on the colors for the collection?
The pink and purple colorway was inspired by winter alpenglow when the snowy landscape is illuminated with sunrise or sunset light. Norwegian winters are especially colorful because of the low light, so I wanted to capture that feeling in this collection. There are no skies on earth like a snowy northern pink glow in the North during December and January. Winter is my favorite time of year, so I love the idea of being able to experience that special color palette all year round.
The teal, blue, and rust colorway feels like the height of summer, when the snow has melted, and the days are long. It captures a glowing sky over lush mountains, a sunrise that blends into the sunset, and a feeling of optimism and excitement about warmer days. The bright turquoise is the color of lakes in Jotunheimen National Park, the blues are like the deep shadows on a mountainside, and the rust orange is that of the earth and the glowing sky.
To me, these two distinct colorways give such a unique feeling of the seasons. They each capture the feelings and memories we all have of these opposite times of the year and express a love for Norwegian nature. The colors are directly derived from the landscapes we all love, and no matter where you live, I hope these colors will spark memories of some of your favorite times outdoors.
Can you share a personal story or inspiration that influenced this design?
When we decided to create a collection together, I was given complete freedom! And from the beginning, I knew I wanted to make something pink and purple for all of us who love those colors and appreciate something beyond just the utility and function of most gear. Why not make pieces that are as fun to look at as they are useful? Pieces that make us extra motivated to gear up the dogs, no matter the weather, and head outside? My overarching inspiration behind the colors, patterns, and combination of the mountains and geometric patterns was to create something nostalgic and retro. To me, this collection is about connecting with a simpler time, and it makes my inner child happy.
What did you find most rewarding about working on this series?
Knowing that my artwork, which reflects a deep love of nature and of pursuing joy, will be worn on so many adventures by so many dogs and people all over Norway and beyond! Also, I love incorporating bright colors into everything I do, so having our two dogs use this collection will be so fun and meaningful. We have two male dogs, so one of them is going to get called a girl nonstop *laughing*, as he will have to wear pink and purple - a sacrifice he is going to have to make for me *laughing*. Also, I love storytelling and sharing about all the ups and downs of life, like moving to a new country and starting over, and my artwork and communication style are all about that.
What emotions or feelings did you hope to evoke with the design?
Excitement, joy, a sense of adventure, fun, playfulness, and optimism. I love how the design brightens up every activity. I hope it simply makes anyone who sees it a bit happier and more hopeful!
Is there something special you'd like to share directly with people getting this collection?
We have been using Non-stop dogwear gear for our dog Knute for four years now, and still have some of his original gear. It really lasts, which is something we have been so grateful for. I am so honored that I was able to create this collection because it is something we will use for so many years, and I cannot wait for all the adventures we will go on with these harnesses, leashes, collars, and the hip pack. It is extra special to me that we now have two dogs, and each one can be fully kitted out in their own outfits! Also, the art patches on the hip packs are my original acrylic paintings!
Through the Rachel Pohl signature series, we hope to inspire countless adventures with our dogs. Whether you're hiking through the wildest mountains or enjoying a leisurely stroll in your neighborhood, let this collection be your companion while you explore, discover, and reconnect with nature.
